Embryo

First, there's the idea:
- What's the sound of an interior design object?
- What's the shape of music?

Two artforms rarely integrate in a profound way, either consciously or in mutual dialogue.
As business companies, we need innovation and new business ideas, we need to diversify our market, make more connections leading to more business exchange for a healthy and growing business climate. If you work in a traditional way, you end up with traditional solutions.
In order to reach new results, we need to explore new and unusual fields of development, allowing opposing genres to meet and merge into something new. Innovation is born out of the unknown.
Innovation in itself is something unexpected, something we couldn't quite comprehend but which outlines we just barely were able to imagine.
The innovator throws herself into the unknown, facing the result whatever it turns out to be, and then improvises until the idea has taken a physical form, has turned into a result, a product, an innovation…

What if music inspired the design and the design inspired the music?

About us

[Puie: Dsch] Collaborative explores the interaction between music and design in product development.

We are:

Karin Gullbrantz   David Stiernholm
Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, 1972.
Karin is the engineer who discovered the joyful path of Aesthetics. She has a Diploma degree RCA in design from Ravensbourne College in London, and studied at Malmö University. She has worked with stage set design and interdisciplinary projects, where art and technology integrates into new applications.
Sources of inspiration are everything from electrical power stations to positive forms of architecture and the negative spaces in between. Light in all its different ways and expressions are also an important source for new ideas.
  Born In Gothenburg, Sweden, 1971.
Multi musician and composer based in classical and improvised music. He plays the oboe, keyed fiddle, soprano saxophone as well as a diversity of flutes. David performs regularly as a solo instrumentalist as well as with his fixed collaborations within jazz, folk- and classical music.
He also runs Stiernholm Consulting, where he as Structurer establishes systematic and structured processes within organisations, creating harmony out of cacophony.
David's attitude to life is easily grasped -- he basically enjoys it.

The Project

In a creative process, we create an object inspired by the music inspired by the object. Music and object is created simultaneously, from idea to finished product, in six sequential steps.

Karin begins the sketchwork, an idea, a presentiment, in a physical form. The sketchwork is passed on to David, who takes part of it, lets himself get inspired by the material and creates a soundsketch. It can have the shape of a few bars of music, a section of a melody, or a sequence of chords. The second sketchwork is brought together with the first one and is send back to Karin, where the sketching continues with additions, adjustments, or removal. By the end of the process we have a finished interior object which is connected to a finished piece of music.

The very different ways of expression, music composition and design, co-operate in the way that the object is given sound and the music is given form. One unit, although two parts, although one unit.

In this project we explore an unconventional method of working and the keywords are new, free and big.

The process starts during spring 2005 and the result is presented in spring 2006.
